Occupational Therapy

How can an OT help your child? An Occupational Therapist helps people do the activities that they want and need to do.

Does your child struggle with deficits in fine and gross motor skills or have sensory issues with textures and foods? We can help address your child’s occupational therapy needs through private 1:1 therapy in the comfort of your own home. CASA Speech Therapy (DBA The Speak Center) recognizes that for many parents having a therapist come to you is more convenient, and in some cases more effective than taking your child to therapy at a facility.

OTs can help your child develop independence with self-care, develop play and social skills, address sensory processing concerns, teach self-regulation strategies, and improve fine, gross and visual-motor skills.

According to the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, Feeding and swallowing disorders can lead to health, learning, and social problems. Feeding disorders include problems with sucking, eating from a spoon, chewing, or drinking from a cup. Swallowing disorders, also called dysphagia (dis-FAY-juh) are difficulties with moving food or liquid from the mouth, throat, or esophagus to the stomach. Feeding and swallowing disorders are often related to other medical conditions but may also occur without a known cause.

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) help children with feeding and swallowing problems with feeding therapy. Feeding therapy can improve a child's ability to eat and swallow properly.

The Baby Signs® Program

Baby Signs®, the ORIGINAL sign language program for hearing babies, has been bringing powerful, research-proven benefits to babies and their families around the world for over 25 years. The Baby Signs® Program is the world’s leading program for hearing infants and toddlers because it is the only program that:

- Was developed by child development experts specifically for hearing babies.
- Has been scientifically tested and proven to provide positive benefits for babies and their families.
- Is based on American Sign Language with added flexibility to meet the needs of all families.
- Offers a full range of signing classes for babies, parents and child development centers.

The Baby Signs® Program helps children develop both language and cognitive skills. Studies show that babies who sign actually develop speech sooner and have larger vocabularies when they do start talking. The Baby Signs® Program is based on groundbreaking research which began an international movement to teach hearing babies to use signs. After 20 years of careful study, researchers proved that using signs actually enhances language, cognitive, and social-emotional development.
We offer parent workshops and play classes that teach everything needed to start signing with your baby! Please email us at info@casaspeechaz.com to inquire more.
